Personal Item: Spirit Airlines baggage allowance allows passengers to bring one personal item on flights for free. A personal item includes a small backpack, laptop bag, or purse. The maximum size is 18 x 14 x 8 inches including handles and wheels.

Carry-On:

Passengers can also bring a carry-on bag for a fee if the bag doesn’t exceed the size of 22 x 18 x 10 inches (including handles and wheels). Baggage fees with Spirit depend on the route so always use a baggage calculator to check the fee.

Stroller Check Policy: Spirit Airlines allow a stroller or double stroller and car seat at the ticket counter or gate. Passengers can check one car seat and one stroller per child free of cost.

Overweight and oversized baggage fees:

Spirit Airlines don’t allow any bags heavier than 100 pounds or greater than 80 linear inches total. Spirit Airlines charges both overweight and oversize fees to its passengers. For overweight bags, you will have to pay an extra overweight baggage fee of $79 to $125. However, for oversized bags, you will have to pay the charge of $150.

The Spirit baggage weight and oversize fees are as follows:

  • Overweight Fee: Spirit charges $50 per bag for a bag of 41 to 50 pounds. You will be charged an additional $75 per bag if 50 to 70 pounds and an additional $75 per bag if 71 to 100 pounds.
  • Oversized Fee: There is a fee of $100 per bag if 63 to 80 inches, including wheels and handles.

Excess baggage fees:

Spirit Airlines allow its passengers to bring one checked bag on international flights, additional bags are on a first-come, first-served basis. So if you want to bring excess baggage then it is advised to purchase your extra baggage allowance ahead of time.

Sports Equipment:

Golf clubs, ski equipment, and snowboard equipment are allowed the standard checked baggage rates.

Prepay for Luggage:

Spirit Airlines allow passengers to prepay for luggage in three ways i.e. online, with the mobile app, or by contacting its call center.

  • Log in to your reservation from the “My Trips” tab on the Spirit website. Then click Add Bags. This process is only applicable before 24 hours of departure.
